How to change my Nameservers

Propagation Time after a DNS change

It can take up to 72 hours for a DNS change to fully propagate across the internet, but can happen in under 24 hours on large networks.

DNS means Domain Name Service. Whenever you type in a domain like "hostwinds.com" you are using a DNS server to translate that human readable name into a computer readable name called an IP Address. An IP address is a series of numbers assigned to each computer on the internet so the internet network knows how to route each message to the appropriate computer with the matching IP Address.

DNS servers are located all over the world and managed by various public and private companies. They all work together to keep accurate records of domain names and their corresponding IP Address. Because each server must communicate it's changes to all the other DNS servers around the world this process can take 24 to 48 hours.

Changing Nameservers

If your domains are managed by another company you will need to login into their system and change the nameservers to the two nameservers
indicated in your initial setup email.

You will see a section in your Account Information email similar to this with your specific nameservers:

If you are using an existing domain with your new hosting account, you will need to update the nameservers to point to the nameservers listed below.
