Apply Microsoft Security Patch to Server 2008

Log onto your server via Remote Desktop:


  1. Download the Remote Desktop application for MAC (if you do not already have it installed): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12?

  2. Start the “Remote Desktop” application. By default, it installs in the OSX dock.

  3. Enter the IP address or hostname of your server into the “Computer” text field then select “Connect”

  4. Enter the login credentials for your server then select “OK”



  1. Press the Windows Key + R simultaneously

  2. In the “Run” window that appears, enter “mstsc.exe” then press “OK”

  3. Enter the IP address of your server in the “Computer” text field of the “Remote Desktop Connection” window that opens then click the “Connect” button.


  4. You may see a warning regarding a security certificate. This is perfectly normal. Simply select the “Yes” button to finalize your connection


Install the Microsoft patch:

  1. Open Google Chrome on the server, by default this is pinned to the task bar:


  2. Navigate to the following URL: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4012215

  3. In the second row, select the “Download” button on the far right

  4. In the new window that opens, select the blue link under the “March, 2017” text

  5. Once the download is complete, select the downloaded .msu file in the download tray

  6. Select “Yes” when prompted to install the “Security Update for Windows…”

    You will then be required to reboot your server for the patch to take effect.
